Lash Lift VS Lash Extensions, What’s The Difference?
Are you looking for a way to make your lashes look longer and fuller with added tone and depth? Sometimes mascara simply doesn’t do the job, and wearing fake eyelashes is definitely not a practical thing to do every morning. As the lashes are considered to be the most important in making your eyes pop, various treatments have become popular.
But what type of treatment should you go for? Which one would be the most suitable to make you stand out? The two options are eyelash extensions and eyelash lifts, but what’s the difference? Keep reading to find out the differences between the two and which one might be more suitable for you.
What Is a Lash Lift?
A lash lift is mostly known as being an alternative to eyelash extensions. Lash lifts use specifically made, non-toxic chemicals on your natural lashes. These chemicals work to break down the lashes’ structural bonds and reform them.
They’re kind of like a perm for your eyelashes. This allows your lashes to become curled from the base to the top, making them appear longer and lusher. That’s an important distinction: while a lash lift does add curl to your lashes, it doesn’t actually add length or volume. They just appear to look longer and fuller.
What are Eyelash Extensions?
Unlike lash lifts, eyelash extensions do add length and volume to your natural lashes. Eyelash extensions work by placing artificial lashes, called extensions, to your natural lashes. Each lash is attached to one of your natural lashes 1-2 mm from the eyelid base with special lash glue. This glue isn’t harmful or irritating.
Eyelash extensions can come in various thicknesses, curl shapes, lengths, and colors in order to transform your lash look thoroughly.
Any Major Differences?
Now that you know what these two services are like at their core, let’s look at the significant difference that could be your deciding factor.
Longevity and Maintenance
Lash lifts can last anywhere from four to six weeks, depending on how fast your natural lashes grow or fall out. On the other hand, Eyelash extensions can last without upkeep for about three to four weeks, but they can last indefinitely with regular maintenance. Eyelash extensions require much more care and maintenance than lash lifts do.
Lash lifts require you not to touch them up or apply mascara for at least a couple of days after the treatment. They require a 24 to 48 hour setting period. After that, you can wear makeup as usual. However, with eyelash extensions, you won’t even need mascara because of the added length, volume, and thickness.

As you can see, choosing lash lift or extensions depends mostly on you and what you want out of the service. If your main focus is a small boost that you don’t have to think or worry about, a lash lift might be the number one choice for you. If you want something that lasts longer and adds more length to your lashes, eyelash extensions will give you what you want.
